Civil Roadway Engineer I – Transportation Infrastructure – St. Louis, Missouri

Opportunity :

Parsons Corporation has immediate opening for an experienced Civil Roadway & Highway Engineer I . This role is for supporting design engineering for various Missouri DOT, projects, as well as other surrounding regional projects. The selected Engineer will have road and highway design and engineering experience with interstate roadway projects. Project design experience with the state DOT projects in this region is highly desirable. Experience and a strong understanding of State DOT policies, procedures and guidelines is also a plus.

This role can be hired at the more experienced level as well !


  • The selected Engineer must also have strong communication skills, and sound experience supporting state DOT road & highway projects

  • This hire may manage a subtask of a smaller project or study in accordance with contractual obligations.

  • Proficient experience with Microstation for roadway design is essential

  • Responsible for the technical excellence of the engineering functions of the project including coordination of technical disciplines and development of project alternatives, and preliminary and final design.

  • Design horizontal and vertical roadway alignments, and super elevation diagrams, utilizing MicroStation Inroad and Open Roads.

  • Experience with interchanges design engineering is a huge plus.

  • Perform quantity calculations project estimates.

  • Providing support and guidance to more junior Engineers in completing project deliverables.

  • Develop details to construction, detour, signing and marking, as well as erosion control drawings.

  • Coordinate with project team and interdisciplinary technical personnel.

  • Assists the project manager in completing the project deliverables.

  • Ensures project is adhering to client criteria and scope.

  • Assist in preparing technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management.

  • Assist in obtaining, analyzing, and circulating technical and contractual information to project disciplines.

  • May be responsible for the scope development, scope management and commercial performance of projects to meet project goals and objectives.

  • Assist functional managers to identify company resources, through liaison with support departments, other offices, or subsidiaries, to create project teams capable of completing effective, quality work.

  • Assists in identifying new project pursuits, gathers intelligence regarding these pursuits, participates in Parsons’ pursuit process, and may lead response to client requests for proposals/qualifications.


  • A 4-year degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) and 3 years or more of road & highway design experience is required. Professional Engineer (PE) is desirable, but not required. EIT is highly preferred.

  • Roadway & Highway design experience for major state DOT interstate projects is highly preferred. Geometric alignments design is required. Missouri DOT experience is desriable, but not required. MicroStation experience is required. Open Roads experience is desirable.
