Parsons Corporation Biologist- Environmental/Aquatic in Syracuse, New York

Parsons is currently seeking amotivated, self-starting, early career level biologist for a field and office based position in the Syracuse NY, office.This position will be part of an interdisciplinary team working on a wide variety of environmental projects. A successful candidate will enjoy working on a diversity of projects, be committed to safety, organized, and have the ability to effectively communicate to a wide range of individuals. This opportunity will start as a part-time (18 to 40 hrs/week) position early in 2020 with the intent of increasing to a full-time role over the summer.

Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this position will be assisting Senior Scientists and Project Managers with a diverse environmental monitoring program in Syracuse, NY including:

  • Perform routine and specialty field tasks including fish sampling and processing for tissue analysis, surface water and sediment sampling in stream, wetland, and lake environments, wetland and stream evaluation, wildlife and aquatic habitat evaluations, site reconnaissance and explorations.

  • Prepare reports and recommendations based upon field studies and analytical data.

  • Field and office QA/QC responsibilities, including creation and/or updating of Quality Assurance Project Plans.

  • Develop permit applications.

  • Manage assigned tasks as part of larger projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Biology, Ecology, or related discipline required; Master’s degree in aquatic ecology or similar preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise letters, memoranda, technical reports, and figures.

  • Ability to work and make good decisions independently and as a member a team.

  • Strong time management, coordination, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel locally and regionally for this position. Field work can occur year-round and in all weather conditions.
