Construction Engineer/Specialist

Our Construction Engineers exercise discretion and independent judgment on a regularly basis and demonstrates an increasing proficiency in utilizing his/her engineering knowledge to complete assignments. This Construction Engineer at this level has prior field experience and is expected to complete assignments with increasing proficiency. May give functional guidance to craft and/or lower-level technical personnel. Willingness to relocate to construction site locations is expected.


  • Perform assignments involving the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects of a construction project.

  • Maintain first-level quality assurance to confirm that the installation of all work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, and industry standards.

  • Ensure tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures.

  • Collaborate with construction/project management to eliminate hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.

  • Ensure that personnel of the assigned group engage in safe work practices in compliance with site-specific safety procedures and industry standards.

  • Establish and maintain liaison with the discipline design engineering staff. Review and interpret design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work.

  • Provide resolution options for technical problems; coordinate application of solutions.

  • Develop construction schedules and monitor progress. Provide schedule and progress appraisal report to the Construction/Project Manager.

  • Monitor material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule. Ensure that materials received meet specifications and established standards of quality.

  • Maintain and organize the accumulation of data for the final project turnover and report.

  • Initiate and maintain records, back-charge procedures, progress reports, etc., as required.

  • May have some interface with the client and upper-level management.

  • Track project costs, contract modifications and task orders and assist with establishing budgets for same.


  • 4-year degree in engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent construction-related work experience, as well as 5+ years of experience in field construction is required. Experience in civil or environmental and/or mechanical/process projects is preferred.

  • Requires a working knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as industry practices. Also requires potential for performing in a lead capacity on a project.

  • Engineering and construction knowledge preferred.

  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Estimating software experience preferred (particularly for environmental remediation construction).

  • Good communication, writing and interpersonal skills.

  • High initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work with minimal supervision and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task and after experience, prioritize assignments.
