Information Operations / Technical Specialist II
Conducts analysis and evaluation of information-related capabilities and activities to determine best methods of achieving IO capabilities, and courses of action to accomplish IO objectives.
Provides recommendations to the military.
Instructs, mentors joint,multinational battle staffs in accordance with applicable joint doctrine in Joint Information Operations (IO), and information-related capabilities (IRC) such as military information support operations (MISO), military deception (MILDEC), electronic warfare (EW), operations security (OPSEC), public affairs (PA), special technical operations (STO), key leader engagement (KLE), and combat camera (COMCAM).
Iintegrates Joint IO and PA planning efforts with other organizations and combatant commands.
Instructs, mentors joint, multinational IO and PA officers, personnel in participation, contributions to joint planning groups across entire range of military operations, to include conventional, unconventional, special operations, and crisis response.
Maintains relationships with Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD organizations involved in information operations and public affairs planning or other related mission areas.
Instruct battle staff seminars in joint information-related capabilities.
Clearly articulates in oral and written form, observations of IO and PA officers and personnel in the participation in and contributions to a joint planning group across the entire range of military operations, to include conventional, unconventional, special operations, and crisis response operations.
Candidate must have at least three years of experience and institutional training in at least two of the eight joint information related capabilities listed in Core Capability 1 within the last five years and must have served in a Geographic Combatant Command or Theater Special Operations Command in a capacity related to Core Capability 1. Candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the Joint Operations Planning Process (JOPP) in order to sufficiently instruct on the integration of IO into JOPP as a critical enabling staff element. Candidate must have a service background in any of the following:
U.S. Army Information Operations (Functional Area 30)
U.S. Navy Information Warfare (Designation 1810)
USMC Technical Information Operations Officer (MOS 8834)
Public Affairs Officer/Specialist (all services)
U.S. Army Psychological Operations
Electronic Warfare Officer/Specialist (all services)
Any service intelligence or operations (non-admin/logistics) officer/specialist with at least five years of experience (plus institutional training) in MILDEC, OPSEC, and/or STO.
In order to maintain currency in those skills and areas listed as Core Capabilities, attend the following during employment:
Joint Information Operations Planner Course at the Joint Forces Staff College
Special Operations Military Deception Planner Course (SOMPC), Defense Military Deception Training Course (DMTC),
Defense Operations Security Planner Course, IO Capabilities Applications and Planning (IOCAP)
Electronic Warfare Integration Course (EWIC) (1st IO Command requires IOCAP as a prerequisite to EWIC),
Joint Electronic Warfare Theater Operations Course (JEWTOC),
OPSEC Analysis and Program Management Course (OPSE-2500),
Military Information Support Operations Integration Course (MISOIC)
Joint Expeditionary Public Affairs Course.
