We are looking for a Safety Coordinator to join our team in western Canada to oversee and coordinate an effective health and safety program for workers onsite across British Columbia. As a Safety Specialist, you will advise and assist the management team in the establishment and implementation of Parsons' ESHARP Management System and the Project Safety, Health and Environmental Plan (PSHEP) - identifying, communicating and/or eliminating or controlling hazards to persons and property. You will report through the Corporate Safety organization while supporting multiple project managers.
Coordinate health and safety activities at worksites where Parsons acts as the prime contractor
Develop and/or update safety procedures in accordance with Parsons' requirements and applicable Regulations (e.g., Parsons Safety, Health and Environmental Plan (PSHEP)/Site-specific Safety Management Plan (SSSMP), Project-specific Safety Orientation and mandatory documents).
Ensure an emergency response plan is maintained for each worksite and communicated to the workers.
Ensure site drawing of project layout, first aid location, emergency transportation provisions, evacuation procedures and muster point locations are communicated and posted.
Ensure first aid services, equipment, supplies and transportation for injured workers are available for the worksite and maintained as needed.
Ensure subcontractors are prequalified using the online Global Contractor Safety Evaluation (CSE) Program and complete a Contractor Risk Evaluation Form (CREF) in IndustrySafe prior to mobilization.
Review contractor documentation associated with work activities to confirm a proper hazard assessment has been completed and required permits are in place.
Review internal and subcontractor safety plans, emergency response plans, safe work practices (SWPs)/safe job procedures (SWPs)/activity hazard analysis (AHAs) prior to mobilization or as requested/required.
Provide safety orientations (as needed) to personnel, including subcontractors, vendors and visitors.
Conduct site meetings with staff and subcontractors to coordinate safety and ensure compliance with the Act/Regulation
Ensure subcontractors and workers are informed of hazards at a worksite and hazards are addressed and corrective actions implemented.
Ensure staff and subcontractors report and investigate incidents in a timely manner identified in the PSHEP/SSSMP - participate in incident investigations to ensure the identification of root causes and corrective actions.
Utilize safety management software to document incidents (including proactive events), meetings, inspections, orientations, observations, and corrective actions.
Conduct inspections as requested or required by both our internal processes, the client requirements, and the Act/Regulation.
Develop and/or provide training materials to workers as necessary.
Maintain active and visible involvement using open communication with employees and stakeholders regarding SH&E issues on a project.
Provide assistance as requested with internal or external audits and corrective action plans.
Other responsibilities as needed or assigned by Corporate Safety
Degree, diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) and 1-5 years of related work experience in OH&S - CRSP, CRST, NCSO and other designations preferred, but not required. CSTS-09 certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Experience working on civil construction projects is preferred.
First aid certification preferred.
CORTM auditor certification preferred.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of Workers Compensation Act/Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
Class 5 driver license and willingness to travel throughout western Canada.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient computer skills and use of safety management software.
Willingness to be engaged with health and safety committees
