Job Description:
Parsons is now hiring a Site Signal and Grade Crossing Inspector for up and coming work on the GO Rail Network in the greater Toronto area. The successful candidate will be required to perform site inspections during late hours including overnight and occasionally on weekends. Candidates interested in part-time work will be considered.
With minimal supervision, the selected candidate will perform the most difficult and complex inspection tasks, including assessing adherence to quality control procedures. Inspects various facets of work on the job site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned inspection activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents nonconformance and participates in determining appropriate resolution. Inspection activities will pertain to grade crossing warning systems and signalling. Frequently serves in the capacity of Lead Inspector. Willingness to travel to field sites is expected. Performs work in safe manner and is cognizant of public safety.
In this role you will:
Conduct inspections and verify that the work has been done in accordance with contract specifications and may include any of the following:
Perform inspection services related to the installation of signal and track cases, installation of grade crossing warning systems, including gates, bells, flashers and controllers, installation of I-J joints, wiring signal cases, installation of messenger cables, pulling line and local cables, wiring relays in relay room and other aspects of work involved with a signal project.
Verify and signoff on compliance with the applicable specifications and drawings.
In addition:
Maintains office files related to the project, quantity calculations and writes daily diaries.
Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by contract.
Collects, reviews and files Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags and other information relevant to the materials used.
Provides technical guidance and delegates responsibilities as appropriate to lower-level inspectors.
Reports on installed quantities to verify applications for payment and change order work.
Plans and coordinates all field inspection activities and reviews the work of Representatives to ensure compliance with job specifications.
You'll have: 2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required. Minimum of 15 years of experience, with the last 10 years in roles related to rail signalling and grade crossing projects. Construction safety training. Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications, be totally familiar with construction-related processes related to area of assignment. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; and follow oral and written instructions.
