Under general supervision, performs well-defined and sometimes difficult inspection tasks, including monitoring quality control procedures.
Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
Documents nonconformance and may participate in discussions to determine appropriate resolution.
Inspection activities are usually concentrated in one of the following areas: soils, concrete, mechanical, or electrical.
Willingness to travel and/or to relocate to field sites is expected.
Responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and performing the actual specialized field inspection work commensurate with their designated discipline.
Relative to their respective disciplines, Inspectors are required to physically inspect work at the site(s) for code compliance and adherence to construction contract requirements.
Inspectors will recommend approvals or rejections of materials and workmanship as appropriate.
Monitor labor and safety requirements; complete written inspection reports for every inspection; process field reports for the Government.
Maintain inspection logs and records of defects and/or omissions; and similar activities.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required. Also requires at least 5 years of related experience on commercial construction projects. In addition, may require formal certification from an independent organization, depending on type of inspection assignment.
Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications and have a working knowledge of construction-related processes related to area of assignment.
Must be proficient with construction management software like Prolog.
Must have OSHA 30 Hour card.
Prior Corps of Engineers training in Construction Quality Management for Contractors preferred or must go through training within 30 days of assignment.
