Job Description:

In the role of Community Relations Officer, you will be at the forefront of this effort and key to the success of the project!


Reports to the Socioeconomic Development Manager (SDM) and assists with the engagement of local Indigenous and Northern communities.

  • Respond to emerging issues within communities, and/or members of the public and implement strategies to track, address, mitigate, and minimize any issues or potential issues.

  • Ensure socioeconomic development programs maximize local training, employment, and procurement opportunities.

  • Assist in the implementation of the Socioeconomic Strategy and Indigenous Benefits Plan

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting on the socioeconomic aspects with the Giant Mine Remediation Project (GMRP).

  • Coordinates the updates with the Labour Capacity Studies,

  • Collaborates with the GMRP leadership team in adjusting the Indigenous Opportunities Consideration (IOC) criteria that best aligns with local business and labour market capacity prior to work package solicitation


  • 2-year diploma in social sciences, sociology, social work, community development, business, public administration or a combination of work and education experience will be considered.

  • 4 years of experience in the socioeconomic development including engaging the local communities.

  • 2 years of experience working in Northern communities with demonstrated experience in engaging and maximizing opportunities

  • Experience in similar role within the resource sector preference

  • Excellent people/public relations, communication and mediation/negotiation skills; adept at conflict management and resolution

  • Ability to work effectively with community leaders, diverse community groups, all levels of government, and industry peers.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including editing, presentation, and interviewing skills

  • High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail

  • High degree of PC literacy, including MS Office applications
